The Winnipeg Jets have traded forward David Gustafsson to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Jack St. Ivany.
The trade was announced by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.
Gustafsson spent the 2025-26 season with the Manitoba Moose, recording 10 goals and 22 assists.
He also played seven Calder Cup Playoff games, notching four points.
The trade affects the Winnipeg Jets' roster as they currently stand 12th in the Western Conference with a 35-35 record and on a L4 streak.
Gustafsson has spent the last seven seasons in the Winnipeg Jets organization.
He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft.
The Winnipeg Jets will look to adjust their lineup with the loss of Gustafsson.
Gustafsson has played 149 career regular-season games in the NHL, accumulating 20 points.
He has also played 136 career regular-season contests in the AHL, notching 91 points.
The Winnipeg Jets will continue to work on their roster as they aim to improve their standing.
And with the trade, the team will look to fill the gap left by Gustafsson.
But the acquisition of Jack St. Ivany will provide the team with a new defenseman.
So the Winnipeg Jets will look to integrate St. Ivany into their lineup.
Gustafsson's experience in the SHL and international level will be an asset to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The trade is a significant move for the Winnipeg Jets as they look to rebuild their roster.
